Enola Hughes Obituary

Enola Jean (Foster) Hughes, 100 years of age, and proud centenarian, died peacefully surrounded by her children at her home in Trenton, MO on Friday, February 20, 2026. She was a greatly loved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and friend.

Jean was born February 4, 1926, the daughter of Roy Alvin and Iva Myrtle (Stottlemyre) Foster in Harris, Missouri. Jean graduated from Harris High School, and earned a teaching certificate from Kirksville Teacher’s College, teaching for a short time at Mount Vernon school, near Laredo. She attended Chillicothe Business College, working in Kansas City during WWII. She returned to Trenton, working for Montgomery Wards, and later, the Carnation Company (Trenton Foods), retiring in 1989 after 27 years. Jean was an avid bowler, card player, cook and conversationalist. She enjoyed her retirement and filled the days with volunteering at church, the senior center, hospital, and visiting with friends and family. She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church, and her faith in a heavenly redeemer guided her actions.

On March 12, 1946, Jean married Harold (Rip) Hughes at Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1992. Jean’s survivors include two daughters, Mary Binney and husband Richard, Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Vickie Bowe and husband Charles, Laredo, Missouri; two sons James Hughes, Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Chuck Hughes, Kansas City, Missouri; one brother Gary Foster and wife Maxine (King), Wooster, Ohio. Jean was blessed with eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Ann Hughes, one sister Alberta Rooks, and two brothers R.A. Foster and Orel Clayton Foster.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton, Missouri. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Trenton, Missouri.

Family visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.,Wednesday, before the service, at the mortuary. The family requests memorials be made to either North 65 Center (the area’s Senior Center) or Sunnyview Nursing Home Foundation, in Jean’s memory. Donations may be left with the mortuary.
